Airport Transportation
Singapore Changi Airport (SIN)
Singapore is serviced by Changi Airport. Most airlines fly into one of four terminals at Changi. Note that Changi is on the east side of island, whereas NUS is on the western side. To travel to NUS, it takes about 30 minutes (by car) or nearly two hours (by public transit).
Arriving at Changi
Changi Airport is connected to Singapore’s subway line – the MRT. If you arrive at Terminals 1, 2, or 3, look for signs that say ‘Train to the city’, which will lead you to the MRT station connected to the airport. If you arrive at Terminal 4, you will first need to take a bus to get to Terminals 1-3, where you can then get to the MRT station. The Terminal 4 bus departs every 30 minutes; look for large pink/purple signs for the pickup location.
At the Changi Airport MRT station (CG2), there is a kiosk where you can purchase tickets. Payment options for public transport include contactless Mastercard/Visa/NETS bank cards, mobile wallets, stored-value EZ-Link/NETS FlashPay cards, and Singapore Tourist Pass. Stored-value EZ-Link cards can be purchased from any Changi Recommends store, and at the Passenger Service Centre or TransitLink Ticket Office at Changi Airport Station.
To get to the city, take the train from Changi Airport MRT Station (CG2) to Tanah Merah MRT Station (EW4), then transfer to the East West Line towards Tuas Link MRT Station (EW33). Alternatively, take the train from Changi Airport MRT Station to Expo MRT Station (CG1/DT35), then transfer to the Downtown Line towards Bukit Panjang MRT Station (BP6/DT1).
Note that the MRT does not run 24/7. First train is around 6am and last train is near midnight. You can check exact timings here.
It is additionally possible to book a Grab (like Uber/Lyft) at the airport. You can download the Grab app and book a ride. Depending on your final destination in Singapore, a Grab will cost $20+++, with further locations (like NUS) being more expensive.
Traveling to NUS
The university is accessible by MRT and bus. 7 Arts Link, where the conference will take place, is located on Kent Ridge Dr. It is across the street from the Kent Ridge Terminal bus stop. The closest MRT station is Kent Ridge MRT Station (CC24), where you can take the 95 Clementi Rd bus to the Aft Kent Ridge Dr stop and walk to Arts Link (about 400m).
You can download the Citymapper app on your phone to get detailed, up-to-date public transit directions while in Singapore.
