SEVENTH WORKSHOP ON THE LANGUAGES OF PAPUA (WLP7)
12-16 January 2026
Ternate, Maluku Utara, Indonesia
***
Papers are invited dealing with the “Papuan” (ie. non-Austronesian) languages spoken in eastern Indonesia, the greater New Guinea region, and the Solomon Islands. Equally welcome are papers concerned with the Austronesian languages spoken in the same areas, including the contact varieties of Malay, as well as Tok Pisin and Solomon Islands Pidgin. Papers may be in any of the subfields of linguistics, and may represent variegated approaches and diverse theoretical persuasions. Papers are to be delivered in English.

Persons wishing to present a paper at the workshop are invited to submit a one-page abstract in electronic form (preferably pdf, but MsWord also acceptable) to David Gil at the following address:

Financial assistance:
Limited funds will be available to help support those in financial need. These funds can be used to help cover costs associated with attending WLP7, including travel, accommodation, and registration fees. We particularly encourage applications from scholars working in Papuan-speaking areas. If you wish to be considered for this financial support, please include a one-page document with your abstract submission that (i) outlines your financial situation, (ii) explains why you need funding to attend, and (iii) includes quotes for travel to and from WLP7.
